Automobile components manufacturer UNIPRES opened a plant in Forest, Miss., in 2002 and enjoyed three years of success that necessitated a facility expansion in 2005. Through its role as the city’s engineer, WGK, Inc., prepared the groundwork for both of these economically important projects, which involved a heavy amount of earthwork and grading. A combined total of 60,000 cubic yards of on-site dirt was removed and another 125,000 cubic yards of select material trucked onto the site for both projects. The construction and subsequent expansion of UNIPRES also required the addition of around 18,000 tons of crushed limestone to the large facility’s foundation. The $1.4 million jobs were funded primarily through Community Development Block Grants.
